Division Director meets with Local 1224 Executive Board
Airline Division Director Captain David Bourne traveled to Wilmington, Ohio this week to meet with the Executive Board of Local 1224. The Board; in session for a regular meeting had a full agenda from the current situation at Allegiant Air to ongoing and upcoming negotiations at several properties and the issues faced by several of the pilot groups in the Local who operate for DHL.
“It was a pleasure meeting with Local President Captain Dan Wells and the Board,” said Director Bourne. ‘’The meeting was extremely well structured, President Dan Wells and the board members were very well versed on current problems within the industry as well as the issues at each of the member carriers and focused on finding solutions to the problems that work for the individual carrier while keeping an eye on further strengthening the solidarity of the other carriers in the Local and industry.”
UAL Negotiations Update
On March 11th and 12th the parties met in Rosemont IL. On the 11th, the Union Negotiating Committee presented its comprehensive proposal to the Company. The proposal included the rank and file negotiating committee’s wage proposal, scope provisions, health and welfare, work rules and pension.
In addition to Scope, H&W, Pension and Wages the Rank and File Committee agreed to close out ten previously open language items in an effort to move towards a final agreement. The Company is expected to offer a comprehensive proposal when the parties reconvene again at the direction of the mediator April 20-24th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Governmental and Regulatory
The U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Christopher Hart as the new chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. Hart has served as acting chairman since April, when former Chairman Deborah Hersman resigned from the board.
Members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee are pressing President Barack Obama to nominate a new leader for the Transportation Security Administration. Acting Administrator Melvin Carraway has been filling the top role on a temporary basis since the former administrator, John Pistole, retired at the end of last year.
Airlines, Industry and Labor
American Airlines started flight testing its second Dreamliner 787. The airline plans to enter the aircraft into service on May 7. In June, American will deploy 787s on international service.
Boeing announced plans to increase fuel efficiency for its 777 by 2% by the third quarter of 2016.
