Dear Members,
As previously reported, members may be eligible for financial aid through the Teamster Disaster Relief Fund. For each loss covered by the program members will be required to estimate the amount they do not expect to be covered by insurance or other sources of disaster relief. Please note, funds are limited and unfortunately there may be as many as 90,000 Teamster members who were potentially affected. Each request for aid will be evaluated on an individual basis not on a first come first serve basis.
Application forms are available through the Local Union office. Applications must be completed in full and all requested documentation (copies of Insurance Policies, Damage Claim Forms, Repair or Reconstruction Estimates, Correspondence from Government or other Private Aid Agencies, pictures etc.) must be attached for consideration. Forms must be turned in by January 31, 2012.
Members may also be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy. DUA is a Federal program that provides payments to people in a Federally declared disaster area who have lost work or income due to the disaster. The Federal government funds the DUA program. President Obama declared several counties in NY major disaster areas. Please see the attached fact sheet for more information.
Members who live or work in certain New Jersey counties can find similar information by reviewing the attached document.
