The Teamsters Aviation Mechanics Coalition (T.A.M.C.) is on the frontline of the battle against outsourcing of aircraft maintenance to foreign repair stations. Last year we were able to have language supporting background checks, drug abatement programs and more frequent FAA inspections inserted into the Bill. Unfortunately the bill did not pass.
This year the bill has been reintroduced without the language requiring Background checks, Drug testing and more frequent FAA inspections.
Furthermore, in June of 2010 the National Mediation Board made a long overdue correction to the Union Election Voting Rules for airline employees changing the rule that a non-vote was counted as a no vote. The new rules count only the votes cast and a simple majority wins. Congressman John Mica has proposed language in the bill that would reverse the rules.
I urge you all to call or email your representatives today and let them know that voting for a bill that changes the NMB voting rules and, does not include the background check, drug abatement and FAA inspection language is unacceptable.
Attached is a sample letter for you to use when contacting your representatives.
Sincerely,
Chris Moore, Chairman
Teamsters Aviation Mechanics Coalition
