The Negotiating Committee met with the Company in Las Vegas (in conjunction with the IBT’s
Unity Conference) on April 28, 29, and 30, 2009, to continue working toward a tentative
Agreement.
At the Union’s request the Company provided proposals on Article 12 – Field Trips, Article 13 –
Training, Article 14 – Safety and Health, and Article 18 – Union Security and Representation.
The Union also gave the Company our counter proposal on Article 3 – Covered Crafts,
Classifications, Qualifications, and Bid Areas after reviewing the Unions counter proposal further
discussions on the Article were tabled due to the economic impact of the items that remain open.
After several days of exchanging proposals and dialog, much of Article 18 was agreed to but the
economic items that remain open will be addressed at a later date. After receiving the
Company’s counter on Article 13 and Article 14 the Union deliberated, explained to the Company
the problems concerning training and safety and health around the system. The Company
researched and responded to several training issues the Union raised and will provide the
additional information that remains to be researched. The Union will respond to Article 14 at our
next meeting with the Company. The Union is waiting on a response from the Company on
Article 12.
We will meet with our committee in Houston on June 2, 3, and 4, 2009, before engaging the
Company in negotiations. The meetings will be in order to review the current proposals and to
draft counter proposals to give to the Company.
